Here are some simple but useful examples of the NFC chip for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.  The Note II has a NFC, Near Field Communication, chip that is capable of reading and writing NFC tags.  You can use these tags for a wide ranges of tasks such as setting alarms, turning off ringers, enabling wifi tethering, playing music, starting apps, or even triggers functions inside apps.  The uses seem to be only limited by your imagination.  Get your hands on some NFC tags and give them a try.  You will need some NFC tags that are writable.  You can get them on eBay, Samsung's website, or even on the NFC Task Launcher app for about a dollar a piece.
