This is Part 2 of a multi-part video series on What's New in Android 4.4 for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Galaxy Note 3 Style Handwriting Recognition

Samsung Keyboard has been updated with Galaxy Note 3 style inputs for handwriting.  And it works a little bit differently in the way that if you take out the S Pen when the keyboard is already showing, it will now switch to the handwriting mode automatically.  Before, it would only show you the handwriting mode if you enabled the keyboard after the S Pen was already out.

More Updates to Samsung Keyboard: Emoji Character Support

Samsung Keyboard now supports emoji characters.  Emoji is more than just emoticons.  They have become adopted as a standard and are considered more like characters on a keyboard.  The emoji icons here should be the same for all android devices.

Camera Unlock (Select Carriers Only)

A lot of people have gotten the camera unlock on their lock screens.  You can enable a camera icon that you can swipe on the bottom right corner, which will open the camera directly from the lock screen.  However, it’s missing from my update completely.  Not a big deal since you can add something like the Nexus Camera Widget which you can download from the Google Play store and add it as a lock screen widget.  And it works just as efficiently, maybe even better.

Tip: Remove "Help Text" From Lock Screen

You may notice a message that says "Swipe screen or say wake-up command to unlock."  That’s a new message that you probably don’t really need to see every time.  Fortunately, you can remove it by going to Settings -> My device -> Lock screen -> and uncheck Help Text.

New Music Lock Screen Widget

Unlike before where you had access to a music widget all the time placed from the list of lock screen widgets in this list, now you can only see it when the stock music player app is playing music.  When the music is paused it doesn’t appear.  To resume playing music, access your notification panel, and hit resume from here.

Visually, it looks identical to the Note 3 music lock screen widget however on the note 3, you can jump to different parts of the track by long tapping on it.  You can’t do this on my Note 2.  Let's hope this gets updated in a future update.

There is a reason for why the music lock screen widget disappears when you pause the music.  The widget is not specific to a music player.  For example, when you play music with Google Play Music, you will see the same lock screen widget when you turn on your device.  So when you pause the music, the widget wouldn't know what app you want to resume music from.
